Be our guide!
August 31st, 2007Dear listeners!
as you may or may not know, Maia and me are coming to Brazil! We’re touring with Love Is All and Suburban Kids With Biblical Names between September 14 and 23. (Exact dates coming soon.)
We also took the chance to have a quick vacation before: we’re hanging out in Rio de Janeiro a couple of days before coming to Recife on Sep 14.
If you live in Rio, tell us: what should we be doing these days? What’s your favorite restaurant, or record shop in Rio? Where do you go dancing? Is your band playing somewhere at that time? Tell us!

hi!
i’ll be at your show in sao paulo on the 18th, looking forward to it…
as for good dancing places in rio, one of the best is casa da matriz (www.casadamatriz.com.br). the best parties happen (surprisingly, i know) on mondays, and they are called “a maldita”.
cheers

Well, I’m a carioca (person who lives/born in Rio) and just passed here to recommend a party called A Maldita, on Mondays at Casa da Matriz (Henrique de Novaes Street, 107. Botafogo - that’s the neighbourhood name). The same Bruno mentioned above.
My favorite restaurant these days is called Koni Express, and is actually a japanese fast food that sells only temakis. But you shall also check Drinkeria Maldita, a pub in honor of the party (Voluntários da Pátria Street, 10. Botafogo), and order the indie burger (enormous!) or the kafta burger (just delicious!). If the barman Rafael Santos is on the house, you can ask for a drink with my name (LOL). But the best one is called Juízo (something like sense, good sense): it mix vodka, Red Bull and coffee brandy.
Well, guess that’s my tips. Hope you have nice days in Rio.
PS: Santa Teresa is a good neighbourhood to shop cute and unique bags and dresses. You can check the artists names and work here: http://www.chavemestra.com.br/indexchave.htm. Unfortunatelly St. Teresa de Portas Abertas, week when every artist opens her/his office/atelie to the public, has already occurred this year. But I guess that contacting Chave Mestra, a citizens association, you shall be able to find the way to the shops.

I dont’n know Rio, but I know Recife and I think that it is an interesting place to visit. The music scene is the most bigger and diversified in Brazil (in my opinion), the city has a lot of places to go, a beaultiful architecture, an incredible culture and a very receptive people. If you had a little bit of time, before going to Rio, try to know Recife. I´m sure you will never forget =)
Hugs! See you at the Festival in Recife! ;)

Well, I was at your show yesterday here in Recife… Wonderful! Just love you!
But, if you still here, I recommend you to go to “Porto de Galinhas” or “Maracaípe”, two very very beautiful beaches… And Olinda, where you can see a lot of regional music, like “maracatus”.
Hope you enjoy Brazil!
